Welcome Message Organizing committee

It is with great pleasure and a profound sense of purpose that I welcome all colleagues to the Second Yakult Symposium, to be held on 02th and 03th September 2027 in Sao Paulo, Brazil. This gathering represents far more than a scientific meeting; it is a celebration of nearly a century of progress inspired by the pioneering vision of Dr. Minoru Shirota, whose belief in the power of beneficial microbes to improve human health laid the foundation for an entire field. His conviction that science must serve society continues to guide us today, shaping our research, our collaborations, and our shared mission for a better and harmonious world.

In this second edition of the symposium, we come together to explore the expanding universe of applied microbial science, from probiotics and postbiotics to emerging categories of beneficial microorganisms that support the well-being of humans and animals. The amazing evolution of this field reflects both scientific creativity and a growing global recognition that microbial solutions can meaningfully enhance quality of life. Our event and discussions will highlight not only the biological mechanisms and technological innovations behind these advances, but also their real world impact on health, nutrition, and sustainable living.

As President of the Scientific Committee, I am honored to invite researchers, clinicians, industry partners, students and anyone fascinated by microbiology to join us in this dynamic exchange of ideas. Your contributions, whether through groundbreaking research, thoughtful debate, or collaborative initiatives, are essential to shaping the next chapter of this scientific journey.

Together, we will honor the legacy of Dr. Shirota while looking boldly toward the future. I warmly welcome you to participate, to share, and to be inspired as we continue building a scientific community dedicated to improving lives through the power of beneficial microbes.

On behalf of the Organizing Committee, it is my distinct pleasure to welcome you to the second edition of the Yakult International Symposia.

Science is the core of Yakult’s business, founded on the philosophy advocated by our company’s founder, Dr. Minoru Shirota: “preventive medicine” and “a healthy intestinal tract leads to a long life”. Since its founding, Yakult has consistently pursued research, collaborating with research institutions around the world as part of its focus on exploring the further potential of probiotics.

With the mission to contribute to the health and happiness of all people around the world through the pursuit of excellence in life science and our expertise in microorganisms, we will continue to devote our efforts to discovering the new potential of microorganisms to look beyond the immediate breakthroughs and understand how they can benefit our health.

Message from the President of Yakult Brazil - Mr. Atsushi Nemoto

The founder of Yakult, Dr. Minoru Shirota, always believed that the intestine was fundamental to health, a belief that has been increasingly proven by scientists from different countries. Since its foundation, Yakult has been conducting research with Lactobacillus casei Shirota and other beneficial microorganisms, collaborating with various research institutions worldwide and thus obtaining many high-impact scientific discoveries.

In recent years, people worldwide are increasingly seeking to maintain a healthy lifestyle, and science continues to discover the importance and the relationship of the gut due to its influence on the health of our body and mind.

Promoting these recent discoveries in this area at this international symposium from Brazil to the world is very important for Yakult Brazil, as we are the second branch established outside of Japan, with a history of almost 60 years in this country.

Through this symposium, we hope to continue our role as a communicator, as well as promote opportunities for the exchange of information and innovative ideas about microorganisms on a global level.

We hope it will be a productive symposium filled with knowledge.

Mr. Atsushi Nemoto
